No matter what your budget or how small the space in which you live, you can have a beautiful space. The trends in home decorating for Fall are all about what’s going on in our economy and in our own personal budgets. To get the most out of what you already have try some of the following top trends in decorating:
1) Decorate the way you like. You would be surprised how many people decorate their homes and offices in colors and with items that they are told in magazines and on blogs are “cutting edge” “high style”. Use what you like and don’t worry about whether things “go together”. If you like it, it will work.
2) Decorate responsibly. One of the best ways to express your eco-awareness is to use antiques and cast offs that you reclaim and refinish or reupholster.
3) Buy one or two luxury items. There is no need to live in a Spartan manner but splurge within your budget for something you really want and will use or admire. Sometimes your soul requires that you buy a fabulous painting. Sometimes your body requires that you buy a comfortable chair.
4) The top trend for Fall decorating is to take care of your home the way you take care of your self. Spend some time thinking about what you want from your home and then spend more time making it happen. You will find that you are not the only one who loves your home!

I spend a lot of time in my sewing/art/craft/meditation room. I am fortunate to have a wonderful sewing machine cabinet that also accommodates a serger, has SIX (that’s right–6) drawers AND a folding table in back for holding the weight of a quilt if you are machine quilting it!
Here are just a few of the awesome furniture offerings out there for the sewer, quilter or crafter! The first picture above is from Arrow Cabinets. It’s almost like mine but doesn’t have the serger station. The next one is from Haka and isn’t big enough for me but is a great starter. Last, but not least, is an “L” shaped desk from Orcha. I like the look of it but it doesn’t seem very functional. When I’m sewing or typing on my computer, I need the height adjustment offered by the Arrow and Haka models. Also, imagine using that straight chair–ouch–where’s the cool rolling office chair? Oh that’s right–there aren’t many cool office chairs….hummm…must be my next quest.

- Bathroom Styles
One of the top bathroom decorating trends today is the use of a neutral color pallet. As a person who is only sharing her opinion, blah. As you can see, here’s a big bathroom with everything you could want. A jetted tub, an awesome shower, standing sink and makeup vanity. There is even a fireplace! And it is all beige. Is it just me or would a punch of color make it oh, so much prettier?

Spring just won’t come! The weather is still cool, damp and dreary! I was fantasizing about a beach vacation and kind of looking around on the internet and found an unbelievable deal on Caribbean hotels. The website is called cheapcaribbean.com. It has the best deals on Caribbean hotels and I just wanted to share with you. I had to create a category called “Random Thoughts” because I know that this has nothing to do with decorating my house but man, these rates are unreal. I’m going to be able to swing a little vacation after all!
I’ve decided that my favorite destination out of all those offered by Cheap Caribbean is the Cancun hotels. Just look at the beach photo. The sand is white and the water is clear. Warm, white sand and cool, tall drinks. Gorgeous beach front rooms in Cancun hotels. I’m packing my bags!
Seriously, take a look at this website, cheapcaribbean.com. You won’t believe the rates! Hummm…I see fiesta decor in my future!

My Cannisters Have a New Name
What’s up? My favorite cannisters and serving pieces have changed their name from Gracious Goods to the “GG Collection“. Most of my peeps know that I’m moving and that I LOVE red! So I decided to take this opportunity to buy my favorite cannister set and when I went to Horchow.com to buy them, I found the name change.
Well, I don’t know why the cannister set’s name was changed but I can’t wait to see them in the bright yellow and white kitchen in my new home. I have red small appliances, like a blender and coffee maker, and the GG Collection cannisters will be the perfect touch! Some of the kitchen cabinets have glass doors so I also will be able to use my red dishes! I can’t wait! I’ll take pictures when the moving boxes are gone!

MIRRORED CHEST FROM HORCHOW
I’ve been toying with the idea of re-doing my bedroom in all pinks with glamorous, feminine accent furniture and I found this fabulous two-door mirrored chest at Horchow.com. I also found some great fabric to upholster my bedroom chair which is a yummy pink damask. I love mirrored furniture because it reflects the light in the room and adds a touch of elegance. What do you think?

As you know, this blog is about “dressing” your home. It’s not enough to just have a house, you make it a home when you add the special touches that add beauty and comfort and make life worth living. This next few weeks, I’m going to be talking about using handmade art items and accessories which are artistic and beautiful.
As mentioned in Better Homes & Gardens, Crickets’ Creations is a place where you can find handmade fine knitted items known as “Art Knit”. Shown here is a gorgeous luxury throw, hand-knitted in a wonderful cream with gorgeous art fringe edges. The artist, Celeste, makes these throws to order. Her on-line shop is Cricket’s Creations. The term “Art Knit” is familiar to top designers and decorators who eagerly search for these one-of-a-kind treasures.
So when you want to brighten up a room, consider buying an accessory that is hand-made, artistic and an investment in beauty.

Using photographs to decorate is nothing new of course but if you are an amateur photographer, as I am, and your camera is not the best quality and your “photo decorating” is probably limited to a few snap shots of loved ones scattered around your house.
One of the hottest new decorating trends is using photography art for decorating. Not only is it beautiful, it is a great investment. The value of art photographs will appreciate much in the same way as other art media.
The photographs shown here are from photographer, Heather O’Connor. Heather is a great example of a photographic artist whose work is versatile, beautiful and affordable. She offers black and white prints (I LOVE the polar bear) and gorgeous full color prints. You can purchase Heather’s work in her Etsy shop, Aktie9.
Using photographic art is an affordable way to add beauty and style to any room in your home or office.
